WHO WE ARE
‘RIU & VIU’는 한국 전통 복식 문화에서 받은 영감을 동시대의 감각으로 재해석하여 일상에서 편하게 입을 수 있는 룩을 창조하는 디자이너 브랜드이다. 심플한 컨템포러리 무드를 베이스로, 한복의 전통요소에서 모티프를 얻은 배색과 실루엣 등 독특한 디테일로 포인트를 준 패션을 선보이고 있다. RIU & VIU에서 'RIU'는 流[흐를 류], 'VIU'는 'VIEW:보다' 혹은 관점이라는 뜻으로, 시간의 자연스러운 흐름(流)을 바라보는 우리만의 독특한 관점이라는 의미를 담고 있다. 우리의 역사 문화 유산을 바탕으로 지금 현재, 시대와 함께 숨쉬는 룩을 추구한다.
The name of the brand, RIU&VIU was built on the two ideas: ‘RIU’, a Chinese character 流, meaning flow and ‘VIU’ as in the English word ‘view’. As our name suggests, our goal is to present our unique view on the flow of history. We aspire to bring our tradition back into life in the form of fashion. Beyond replicating the relics of the past, our work pursues relevance through combining the essence of traditional items with our modern lifestyle.

Yeji Kim
디자이너 김예지는 과거라는 시간의 한계에 갇힌 전통의 아름다움이 현시대에서도 그 빛을 발할 수 있게 하겠다는 일념으로 브랜드 ‘RIU & VIU’를 시작했다. 전통 유물의 형태를 살려 심플하고 현대적인 디자인으로 재구성하는 작업에 집중하고 있다.
이화여대에서 한국음악과 의류학을 전공 후, 동 대학원에서 전통 복식 연구로 석사 학위를 취득했다. 이후 전통문화 연구소 온지음 옷공방, 스트리트 패션 브랜드 카무플래지드 에서 일하며 전통 복식과 현대복을 아우르는 경험을 쌓았다.
Born and raised in Seoul, Yeji Kim majored in Korean Music at Ewha Womans University. She, however, realized that her passion lies in fashion and pursued master’s degree in Korean traditional costumes at the same university. She gained experience in both traditional and contemporary fashion, as she worked as a researcher at Onjium Fashion Laboratory and textile and fashion designer for the street fashion brand Camoflaged.
Yeji’s unbinding love for Korean traditional costumes led her to launch her own brand in 2019 with the passion to create unique clothes inspired by Korean tradition. To unleash the beauty that was trapped in the past, she focuses on extracting the essential elements from the traditional clothing and recreating them in wearable yet stylish fashion.
